Message connotation. All the doodads and techno-features fit right in with the direction the Z had evolved over the years. It's not like Datsun/Nissan was sticking to a Chapman minimalist philosophy up until 1989 and then sprung the Z32 on the world out of left field.

I have never heard Mr K say that Z's were supposed to be japanese Lotus, not saying that isnt the case, but apart from the first gen cars, there are 3 more gens that indicate a differing philosophy and progress into the culmination of the Z32, since then that philosophy has obviously left the Z line and taken its place in the GTR, while the Z has returned to a more "vanilla" approach to the sportscar. And I dont mean that in a bad way.

Either way, the 350Z couldnt be more of a test balloon IMHO. Something that clearly spent God knows how much time in focus groups and marketing debates to make sure it could be the most things to the most people without regard for picking a purpose for it and seeing it thru with exceptionalism in mind.

That's what made the Z32 such an appealing car IMO. It set the trend in styling and raised the bar in performance and it's execution of those tasks were what attracted many to it, as opposed to trying to wear as many hats as possible for mass appeal like the 350Z did.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every principle of our socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without ever knowing how it happened....
I no longer need to run on the Socialist Party ticket because the Democrat Party has now adopted our platform."

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
